Medical history is a report that includes information gained from a patient’s medically relevant recollections (e.g. symptoms, concerns, past diseases) and questioning regarding their concerns. Medical history comprises three types which are family history, social history, and procedure history.
Family History: includes the medical issues which are rife in the family. For instance, diabetes can be an example of a Family History.
Social History: includes lifestyle-related information such as smoking habits, alcohol consumption, occupation, and living conditions. This helps in understanding the patient’s environment and its impact on their health.
Procedure History: includes the historical record of past treatments, procedures, and surgeries. For example, a cancer patient has a procedure history of chemotherapy.
